![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It says a map update is available and prompts me for "Payment Options". It is interesting that with the full 2023.10 files and Large JCV installed and working on my nuvi 855, Garmin Express does not recognize that the map is up to date when I plug it in. Booted it up and everything is testing out OK including the junction views. I deleted the small JCV file and copied the large JCV file from my nuvi 755 into the 855's internal storage. ASR and SRX files from the SD card to the 855's internal storage. I renamed the gmapprom.* files on the SD card and moved the downloaded. Using this back leveled version of garmindevice.xml, Garmin Express installed the full 2023.10 NA map files, the corresponding ASR speech recognition files, and the puny JCV file it distributes with the 8x5 series devices. I used a file with a 2018 date and that worked. ![]() I am not sure just how far back you need to go. The only way you can do this is if you have access to an old backup of your device. In order to get the full NA map instead of just the "Lower 49" you have to backlevel your version of GarminDevice.xml. Second Edit: I am happy to report that Melaqueman's workaround still works for installing the 2023.10 map on a nuvi 8x5 device using cloning. I went back to a 2018 dated file last time and that got me around the problem. requires back-leveling the version of garmindevice.xml on the clone to an older version. my old brain isn't what it used to be! I looked back at notes from last update and Melaqueman helped me figure out this problem. It served me well as my "daily driver" for several years.Įdit: OK. It is pretty much a "collector's item" at best. Unless I figure out how to successfully install the full 2023.10 map on my 855, I will probably just retire it with the 2022.25 full NA map. I only keep it updated for the sake of curiosity and to test that the cloning procedure still works on old devices. It is not a big deal as my nuvi 855 hasn't had a "real life" use in a couple of years. When the map exceeds 4 GB, Garmin will have to do the file split like they did with the Europe map several years ago and that may not work on some of the older devices like the 8xx series. I realize these 8xx series nuvi's are pretty much at EOL, especially considering that the full NA map is getting close to 4 GB. The install for the lower 49 works of course, but gives only the puny JCV file and NO corresponding ASR for voice recognition. Has anyone tried to install the full CN NA 2023.10 map on a nuvi 8xx series device (using cloning of course)? I think cloning is the only remaining option on this series for full CN NA.įor me, Garmin Express is only showing the option for lower 49, even though my cloned thumb drive has plenty of free space that would accommodate the full NA map (including the corresponding large JCV file). ![]()
